Police Announce Arrest in Downtown Sexual Assault

Seventeen-year-old male arrested for rape, other felonies

CLEVELAND – Mayor Frank G. Jackson, Safety Director Michael McGrath and Police Chief Calvin D. Williams announce that a 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 51-year-old woman which occurred on Feb. 14, 2019. On that date at approximately 7 p.m., the victim reported that she entered the parking garage at 630 Prospect Ave.  Upon entering the garage, a suspect attacked and sexually assaulted her.  The suspect then forced her into her vehicle before attempting to drive off and crashing the vehicle. The suspect then forcibly took property from the victim and fled.

Detectives from the Cleveland Division of Police Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit were assigned the case and quickly developed leads.  The investigators were able to identify the suspect. On the evening of Feb. 19, 2019, the male was arrested for Rape, Kidnapping, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle and Robbery.  He was taken into custody by the Cleveland Division of Police Gang Impact Unit and the Neighborhood Impact Community Engagement Unit in the 2400 block of East 37th Street.  The suspect was arraigned today in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.
