Funeral Services for Fallen Officer James Skernivitz Announced

CLEVELAND – On Thursday, September 3, 2020, Detective James Skernivitz was shot and killed in the line of duty in the area of West 65th Street and Storer Avenue.   Detective Skernivitz was assigned to the Gang Impact Unit and was recently sworn in as a Violent Crimes Task Force officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working on the national law enforcement initiative Operation Legend.

Calling hours for Detective James Skernivitz will be at A. Ripepi and Sons Funeral Home, 18149 Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights, Ohio on Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, 1 Center Court, Cleveland Ohio at 10 a.m. View street closure information.

The funeral service at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse is private and open only to family, friends, colleagues and invited guests. Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and the Gateway complex are uniquely equipped and prepared to safely and efficiently be the site of the funeral service. Mask mandates, along with additional, appropriate health and safety protocols will be enforced within the venue and around the immediate Gateway area. The service is a ticketed event and members of the public, as well as those without tickets can view a live-stream of the event via the Cleveland Division of Police Facebook page.
