City of Cleveland Reassigns Hopkins International Airport Assistant Director Fred Szabo

CLEVELAND – Former Assistant Airport Director Fred Szabo was reassigned from his position at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to interim emergency operations center manager for the Department of Public Safety effective Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018.

On Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, Mayor Frank G. Jackson directed that Assistant Director Szabo be notified and reassigned from his Airport position upon his return from suspension.

Among Szabo’s responsibilities during his tenure at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport were overseeing the Airport’s emergency operations plan and coordinating the Airport emergency response efforts with local, state and federal emergency responders. He also has extensive experience in the Department of Public Safety, having previously served as the commissioner of Emergency Medical Service and Assistant Safety Director. 

As a result of his reassignment, Szabo’s annual salary is reduced from $156,060 to $120,000.
