The Cleveland Department of Public Health (CDPH) is the local public health agency for the City of Cleveland. The CDPH plays a critical role in protecting and improving the health of our communities by providing a range of services aimed at promoting healthy behaviors, preventing diseases and injuries, ensuring access to safe food, clean air, and life-saving immunizations, and both preparing for and responding to public health emergencies.

CDPH provides high-quality resources and services through various partnerships in the greater Cleveland community. For example, CDPH has initiated and maintained working relationships with Case Western Reserve University, Metro Health Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, both Lakewood and Shaker Health Departments, the Center for Community Solutions, and others. These partnerships are the cornerstone of successful preventive public health care initiatives that meet the needs of City residents and those throughout the Greater Cleveland community.

CDAQ is the air pollution control agency serving Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. CDAQ is contracted with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to enforce state and local air pollution control regulations within its jurisdiction.

The Division of Health Equity and Social Justice provides leadership and support to help advance the City’s key health priorities, including but not limited to, creating healthy neighborhoods through: housing, education, criminal justice, and wealth creation, and by correcting health inequity, while implementing anti-racist health practices and policies.
