Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022 — Cleveland — Mayor Justin M. Bibb announced today the City of Cleveland earned 100, the highest score achievable, on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) 2022 Municipal Equality Index.

HRC (America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality) releases an annual Municipal Equality Index that reflects the hard work, or lack thereof, on municipal equality from cities across the country.

The MEI score examines and reflects how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are of LGBTQ+ individuals who live and work there. HRC rates cities based upon non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and leadership on LGBTQ+ equality.

This is the fifth year in a row the City of Cleveland has achieved a Municipal Equality Index (MEI) score of 100.

"I am proud that Cleveland has earned a perfect score on the HRC 2022 Municipal Equality Index," Mayor Bibb said. "My administration will continue to collaborate with the LGBTQ+ community to make real change in our city and create the Cleveland we know we can be — a welcoming, inclusive and diverse place where all people can succeed."
