Capital Projects Resources

The City of Cleveland operates and maintains 161 city parks including the Highland Park Golf Course and Camp Forbes residential camp, along with 20 recreation centers, the Cudell Fine Arts Center at Cudell Commons, and the Halloran Skating Rink at Halloran Park.

In order to provide the best experience possible to all Clevelanders and visitors, the City continually invests in the parks and recreation system on an annual basis. Below are the major capital projects currently in construction, awaiting construction, being planned, or recently completed.

Under Construction

ARPA funded playground projects were completed in 2024 in each Ward (see completed projects) except in Ward 7, which will be completed at the Hough Green Space in 2025

  • Ward 7 - Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center (New) -- TO BE COMPLETED IN 2025 AT HOUGH GREEN SPACE

The onsite park at the Central Recreation Center (2526 Central Ave.) is receiving a full renovation and expansion that will result in:

  • New playground and swings
  • New half basketball court (converted from a full basketball court)
  • Splash pad
  • Exercise equipment
  • Game tables
  • Rectangular field

Anticipated completion: Fall 2025

Central Recreation Center Park

Clark Recreation Center (5706 Clark Ave.) is receiving a full renovation and minor addition.

Anticipated completion: Summer 2024

Sterling Recreation Center (1380 E. 32nd St.) is receiving a full renovation and minor addition.

Upcoming Construction

Calgary Park (2201 Calgary Ave.) will receive a full renovation.

Anticipated start: Winter 2024/2025

Central Recreation Center (2526 Central Ave.) will receive a full interior renovation and minor addition.

Anticipated start: Fall 2024

Neff Park (961 E. 193rd St.) will receive a full renovation.

Anticipated start: Winter 2024/2025

Rockefeller Park, in the area known as Sowinski (west of the Doan Brook near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Dr. & St. Casimir Way), will receive improvements that result in:

  • New 1,200-foot paved multiuse trail along the recently completed restoration of the Doan Brook
  • New educational plaza
  • New parking lot

Anticipated start: Spring 2025

Storer Park (6621 Storer Ave.) will receive a full renovation.

Anticipated start: Winter 2024/2025

The U.S. Soccer Foundation, through its Safe Places to Play program, has donated two "mini-pitch soccer fields" that will be installed on the former tennis court in Lonnie Burten Park and a repurposed basketball court in Halloran Park.

  • Thank you for participating in the community engagement opportunities on the Draft Long-Range Plan in May 2024. The City of Cleveland is reviewing all feedback and will publish the final Long-Range Plan on the project website soon.

Full renovation of the park that resulted in:

Full renovation and expansion of the park. The existing park was renovated into passive park space with the original splash pad, then park space was added on the west side of the former Citizens Leadership Academy and developed with:

  • Loop walking path
  • Cooling area with

Orr Park - Fall 2022

The area in front of the pool was expanded and renovated into park space that resulted in:

  • Central plaza and lawn areas
  • Playground
  • Splash pad
Meyer Pool - Summer 2022

In coordination with completing the Towpath Trail trailhead, improvements included:

  • Renovated existing parking lot
  • Seating steps
  • Signage
  • EV charging stations
