OCTOBER 21, 2024 — CLEVELAND – This year’s National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) will take place October 20 – 26, 2024. This annual week of awareness and action is a call to bring together individuals, organizations, and local governments to increase lead poisoning prevention awareness.
Throughout the week, activities and programs are aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of lead exposure — especially for young children and during pregnancy — and promoting safe practices to protect families.
“We are fortunate in the City of Cleveland to have great partners, like the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition and Cleveland Public Library, working with us to end childhood lead poisoning,” said Mayor Justin M. Bibb. “Working alongside our colleagues in Cleveland City Council, we are actively collaborating to strengthen our lead-safe programs to better protect our kids, and Lead Week is a perfect time to highlight this ongoing work.”
"The Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition believes that no child should be poisoned by lead. We need to work together to make our city lead safe. The Lead Safe Resource Center is here to support the community and partner with those who want to be part of the solution to create lead safe and healthy homes for the families who need it the most. Together we can keep our children safe so they can thrive in the great city of Cleveland," said Kim Foreman – CEO of Environmental Health Watch, Administrator of the Lead Safe Resource Center and chair of the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition’s Community Engagement Committee.
In recognition of NLPPW, the City of Cleveland and the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition [leadsafecle.org] are teaming up to host various awareness events and activities across the city:
