Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023 — Cleveland — Beginning Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, shared e-scooter users in the City of Cleveland will be able to ride from the hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., an extension from the current evening curfew of 9 p.m. Three companies, Bird, Lime, and LINK by Superpedestrian, currently provide shared e-scooters for rent in the City of Cleveland.
“Extended e-scooter riding hours provide more options for people who are interested in moving around Cleveland without a car,” said Calley Mersmann, Senior Strategist for Transit & Mobility at the City of Cleveland. “We heard from many riders who were limited by the current 9 p.m. curfew. This update is one step toward the City's broader goal of encouraging walking, bicycling, scooting, and taking transit.”
Data from shared mobility companies show there is significant demand for e-scooters between the current no-ride hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The extended riding hours will increase transportation choice for Clevelanders, especially in later evening hours when transportation options may be more limited. The curfew change does not impact shared e-bikes, which are currently available 24-hours a day.
E-scooter users should ride in the street, following all traffic laws. Riders are strongly encouraged to wear helmets. Riding under the influence of substances, including alcohol, is illegal. The City will be working closely with police, community partners, and the e-scooter companies to monitor and address any potential adverse impacts of the extended hours.
